Making Banners Pt. 3 | |
Just can't get enough of these banner tutorials, eh? Here's how to make one with another use of filtering.
1. First I made a new canvas 300 x 100 and filled it with black. Then I posted this cropped image of the stylish Namie Amuro on top.

2. Next I created a layer mask for the layer with the picture and filled it with black. Using a soft 200 pixel white brush, I pressed
once on the area where the subject is.

3. I don't really like the colors here so I'm going to give it a bluish tint. Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Selective Color and
use these settings:
Reds: 100, 0, 0, 0
Blues: 100, 0, 0, 0
Neutrals: 100, 0, -25, 0

4. Make a new canvas 500 x 500 pixels and fill it with black. Go to Filter > Render > Lens Flare and click on the center of the preview,
choosing 100% 105mm Prime.
5. Now you have a white blob of light. Go to Filter > Distort > Polar Coordinates and choose Rectangular to Polar.
6. Copy this light and go back to the banner file. Paste it in a new layer behind the blue coloring layer. Set it to 100% Screen and
move it wherever you think the light looks best. Erase parts you don't want, such as if the light is making her face too bright.

7. Now let's add some techy lines. Go back to your Lens Flare canvas and go to Filter > Distort > Wave. You can stick with your
original settings, but make sure for the "Type" you selected Square instead of Sine or Triangle. You should have a blob of lines now.
Copy this and paste it at the very top of the banner file at 100% Soft Light. Go to Edit > Transform > Rotate to move the lines so
they run diagonally. Erase any parts you do not want, such as those covering her face.

8. Merge all layers and duplicate this layer with Ctrl + J. Set this new layer to 100% Soft Light.

9. Add some text and you're done! (The font I used at the top is Manzanita)
