Icon Tutorial 05
Creating this icon:

1. Create a new 100 x 100 image. Fill the background with color #D5CEB4.

2. Take this mask by lasciviae and put it in a new layer. Set the blending mode to 100% Color Burn. Use the rectangular marquee selection tool to take away the black box at the top right (but don't erase the frame around it!)

3. Take this newspaper column image by _dreamworld and go to Image > Image Size. Resize it to 70 x 150 pixels.

4. Paste the image from step 3 into a new layer on the icon. Set the blending mode to 50% Multiply. Go to Edit > Transform > Rotate and rotate the text around until you have something like below. Once you are satisfied with the placement, click on the check on your toolbar at the top. Go to Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen. Then use the rectangular marquee tool again to erase the text that overlaps the frame.

5. Change the color of the text by pressing Ctrl + U on your keyboard. Check the colorize option and use these settings:

6. Next take this small, rectangular image of Ruki. If you want to use another image, make sure it's around the same size as this one, or you can resize it.

7. Sharpen the picture of Ruki. Then duplicate it and set the second layer's blending mode to 50% Screen. Go to Layer > Merge Visible.

8. Place the image of Ruki onto the icon, inside the frame like below, and set the blending mode of the image to 100% Multiply.

9. Create a new layer. Use the rectangular marquee tool to create a rectangle and fill it with #35342A. Then use the marquee tool again to create a second rectangle right under it and fill it with #B3A977. You should now have something like this:

10. Add some text inside the rectangles. I used font color #D5CEB4 for the text at the top rectangle and #333126 for the text at the bottom rectangle. Then add a decorative brush in a new layer underneath the layer with the two rectangles. Go to Layer > Merge Visible.

11. Last step! Just add a border by going to Layer > Layer Style > Blending Options. Check "Stroke" and use these settings:

12. Tada!
