Removing Text | |
You've probably encountered this problem before: there's an image you want to use in a graphic but there is text in the way! Here I will
teach you how to remove the annoying text the quick and easy way.
1. Say you want to remove the text from this picture of Hyde.

2. Grab the clone stamp tool (press s on your keyboard). Leave the settings at default and change the brush size to Soft Round 65 pixels
(the size of the brush to use depends on the size of the area of text you want removed). Now, holding the Alt key down, click on an empty
area near the text.
3. What you just did was specify what area you want to clone, meaning that the space you just clicked on will now be used as a stamp.
So let's test it out and select the area right underneath the text. Hold the brush and swipe it across the white text, which should have
now turned into part of the background. Keep doing this for the rest of the text, but remember that you are free to clone different parts
of the image, which I suggest you do, since not every part of the picture has the same colors or textures. Also, feel free to switch
between brush sizes. Finally, this is what I got:

4. Granted, it's not perfect, as the left side of the image is blurry, but the text has been removed successfully and I can guarantee
you it would have looked far worse if you had just used a regular brush to go over the text. Let's duplicate the layer and set the top
layer to 100% Soft Light.

Additional Tips:
- Do not rush like I did for this tutorial! With patience, you can clone more parts of your image and it will look less like a uniform
blob.
- Sometimes the area you clone will include unwanted parts (ex. Hyde himself) so you can either clone a different part, choose a smaller
brush size to cover a smaller radius, or simply click around instead of holding down on your mouse button and brushing across the text.
- Of course, some images are more difficult to work with if the background is not as simple as this one. If there is text over the
subject's eyes, for example, that would take some time to remove since you can't just clone part of the subject's face and replace the
eye. Keep practicing!
